Why You Should Buy It

This is actually a very nice processor with very good performance. No it cannot compete with intel i5 or i7 but it is not meant to do so. It does however offer an alternative to i3s and pentiums that are around the same price. If you look at some official performance reviews it is about on par with an I3 3220. It may not have as high of IPC (instructions per clock) but it is not far behind, however it is a little better at multitasking as it has 4 cores instead of two with hyper threading.

Budget friendly, these are excellent processors for gaming and general use. Powerful enough to give a satisfying experience without a lot of money spent. This was paired with an ASUS 970 Pro Gaming/Aura MB and they worked very nicely together, very stable with Windows 10. Given the small performance increase the FX-8370 is over the FX-8350 and the price difference the 8350 is a better buy. The base clock speed (4 GHz) is the same on both but the 8370 has a slightly higher “Max Turbo” (4.3 vs. 4.2) so this difference is very small. An overclocking motherboard will negate the difference. Maybe in overclocking the 8370 has a higher headroom but I haven’t seen it personally. These two Cinebench are virtually identical. Also have an 8350 on the same mb.

Advantages

  • The cooler is good
  • Incredible CPU very quick
  • Much smoother movement
  • Budget friendly, these are excellent processors for gaming and general use.

Disadvantages

  • Everything loads faster, but the real noticeable difference is in gaming

Better than the fastest Phenom II processor as this AMD FX 6200 replaced it, as that was my last computer build, easy to set up in my new motherboard, new memory, and very large ATI graphics card, Works with all new operating systems windows 7 & 8, works with every single bit of software and games. This chip is plenty fast enough and with all the cores so lots of applications can be used at once with no obvious performance hit. And it’s unlocked too as well if you’re curious and want to play with it on a rainy day, whereas Intel is like the Apple of the CPU world, locking down almost all of it’s CPU’s and deciding for you what you need.

Key features

  • GAMING: For Gaming, the CPU can only do so much, sure, the FX can lose some gaming performance eventually, but after that, it’s only up to the GPU.
  • MULTITASKING: For Multitasking, this thing is the way to go. It’s cheap and it does things as fast as you would expect it to. If your computer lags much it’s either your available memory, or a slow Hard Drive.
  • COOLING: The cooler(CPU Heatsink and fan) that comes with this thing is amazing. It’s not cheap, it’s not inefficient, it’s not crap. The stock CPU cooler usually has my processor idling at around 11c-25c when my room is about 68-72f.

Recent Buyers Report

AMD FX-6200 Black Edition has an unlocked clock multiplier for powerful overclocking, which has been added as an advantage. It is manufactured with configurable power, and their performance level is increased for one more step. The curve of the performance is drawn via AMD Overdrive software. There is a big reason that it tailors the experience of your personal preference, which includes performance, efficiency, and low noise. It is one of the reliable processes for yourself and your gaming PC as well. It is one of the desirable processors aimed at the best system.

Advantages

  • The price is great and setting up an AMD PC you can save money for a better GPU or more RAM or an SSD.
  • A great cheap for beginners learning to overclock.

Disadvantages

  • As per a few customers, the accompanying CPU-cooler fan is horrid. Loud and ineffective.

Why You Should Buy It

You’re not losing much by buying an FX versus an i5 for $200+ or an i7 for more. If your games are performing badly with one of these, then that means you need to upgrade your video card/GPU. Get this CPU if you’re on a budget, it will serve you well enough until/if you decide to upgrade in 3+ years. Games will eventually be written to utilize more than 4 cores anyways, so this thing has some hidden potential that may come in the future.

How To Install the AM3+ CPU?

If you’re on this page, you’ve purchased an AMD processor that you wish to introduce. In case you don’t know whether your processor is AMD, there’s a straightforward way of discovering: if the base is shrouded in gold pins, it’s AMD.

  • Open the socket lever:  This step unclips the bar on one side and rises vertically above the board. This procedure will move the socket very slightly, aligning the holes in the plastic socket with the connectors beneath. The processor should drop into place with no force, hence the socket’s type: zero insertion force (ZIF)
  • Fit the processor: The processor can fit only one way into the socket. Make sure the arrow on top of the processor is aligned with the arrow on the processor socket. Gently push the processor into place. You should feel it click into position when it’s all the way in. If it feels like you have to use too much force, stop and check that the processor is correctly aligned.
  • Apply some thermal paste: Thermal paste fills in invisible micro-cracks on the surface of the processor and the cooler, ensuring efficient heat transfer between the two. You may find that your fan comes pre-coated with thermal paste, in which case you can skip this step. If not, you’ll need to apply your own. This step is simple to do. First, squeeze a tiny blob of thermal paste into the middle of the processor. Use a thin, flat edge such as a credit card to spread the compound so that the processor’s surface is completely coated. Don’t spread it over the side of the processor, and add more thermal paste if necessary.
  • Fit the cooler: Take your heatsink and open its handle. Fit the metal clip over one nodule and push it against the CPU mount snugly. Place the heatsink across the top of the processor. Push the remaining metal clip over the second nodule, and then close the handle. This procedure will require a bit of force to get the handle down.

AM3+ CPU Buying Guidelines

Buying the right processor depends on several factors. We’ll talk about the things that you must look for in an AM3+ CPU to make the buying process easier.

  • Cache: The CPU cache is the memory that is utilized to speed up the access of data from a computer’s hard disk or RAM. It decreases the average time that takes to access memory. You will find caches in three different formats
  • Cores: A processor is composed of multiple cores, which are essentially processors inside the processor. Each of these cores is capable of taking on multiple tasks at once. They work together to provide more power for faster processing.
  • Clock Speed: Clock speed is simply a measure of how fast a chip can operate. Naturally, the higher is faster and, of course, better. It’s evaluated in gigahertz or GHz. CPU’s come with different clock speed settings.
  • Threads: Threads refer to the number of processes that a chip can deal with at once. In general, it should be the same as the number of cores in your CPU. However, some powerful CPU’s offer multithreading.
  • .Motherboard: Make sure that your motherboard is designed to support your choice of AM3+ CPU. Every motherboard comes with a CPU socket, but they aren’t made to be compatible with all the CPU models. Therefore, you must make sure that your motherboard has the socket that matches your choice of CPU.
  • Cooling: CPU’s produce a lot of heat in operation. This heating can lead to the damage of the CPU unless it’s controlled. That’s why your CPU should have a decent cooling system to reduce the temperature to prevent heat inflicted damage.
  • Power Source: You must make sure that your power connection is safe and secure. The cable that bridges the connection between your power supply and the motherboard must be long enough. Many CPU’s require an immense amount of energy, so you should get a power supply that is strong enough to provide adequate power.

Components of an AM3+ CPU

  • AM3+ Processor: AM3 processor refers to a processor paired with Socket AM3. AM3 Socket is a kind of CPU socket for AMD processors. It was released on Feb. 9, 2009, as the inheritor to AM2+ Socket, alongside the initial grouping of Phenom II CUPs designed for it. The most important progress for AM3 compared to AM2+ is the support for DDR3 SDRAM. The largest CPU for AM3 Socket is the Phenom II X6 100T.
  • AM3+ Socket: The AM3+ Socket specification contains a few noteworthy design changes over its AM3 predecessor. The 942 pin count for the AM3+ is an increase of one compared to the AM3 Socket layout. The AM3+ Socket has larger pin socket diameter of 0.51 mm compared to 0.45 mm with the AM3 Socket. There is a faster serial link of 3400 kHz from the CPU to the power controller, compared to 400 kHz. The AM3+ Socket offers improved power regulation and power quality specifications, including an increased maximum current support of 145 A versus 110 A. There is also a redesigned CPU cooler retention harness allowing for slightly better airflow for CPU cooling, while retaining cooler backward compatibility.
  • AM3+ Cooler: Since the four holes for fastening the heatsink to the motherboard are located in a rectangle with lateral lengths of 48 mm and 96 mm for AMD’s sockets including Socket FM2, Socket AM3+, Socket AM3, Socket AM2+ and Socket AM2, it is interchangeable for the cooling systems of those sockets.

Characteristics of AM3+ CPU

The AM3+ Socket offers improved power regulation and power quality specifications, including an increased maximum current support of 145 A versus 110 A. There is also a redesigned CPU cooler retention harness allowing for slightly better airflow for CPU cooling, while retaining cooler backward compatibility.

The 942 pin count for the AM3+ is an increase of one compared to the AM3 Socket layout. The AM3+ Socket has a larger pin socket diameter of 0.51 mm compared to 0.45 mm with the AM3 Socket. There is a faster serial link of 3400 kHz from the CPU to the power controller, compared to 400 kHz. Some manufacturers have brought AM3+ support to some of their AM3 motherboards via a simple BIOS upgrade. Mechanical compatibility has been confirmed and it is possible for AM3+ CPUs to fit in AM3 boards, provided they can supply enough peak current. Another issue is the use of the sideband temperature sensor interface for reading the temperature from the CPU. Therefore, some CPU PWM fan headers may only run at full speed. Also, certain power-saving features may not work, due to lack of support for rapid VCore switching.

Advantages Of AM3+ Platform

  • To begin with, ASRock started with the socket itself, showing that AM3+ sockets can be identified by “AM3b” written on the socket, and have wider pin-holes (0.51 mm vs. 0.45 mm of AM3). It is possible that future (retail?) versions of the CPU, if not the engineering samples doing rounds, could use packages with thicker pins that are incompatible with AM3. The thicker pins add durability, and are designed for a different set of electrical specifications.
  • AM3+ processors are designed to talk to voltage controllers over a different VID, that’s 3.4 MHz VID, while the AM3 socket can only handle 400 KHz VID. Even if AM3+ chips run on AM3, they might probably lack some power management features, because AM3 boards’ controllers might not support them. AM3+ will also feature a more advanced load-line design that lets controllers monitor electrical loads of the CPU and keep voltages within a stable range, minimizing vDroop (lowering of vCore with higher than normal load (when overclocked, loaded), messes up OC stability). AMD’s new load-line design increases efficiency by up to 11.8%.
  • AMD’s new electrical specification, coupled with ASRock’s implementation are claimed to reduce CPU power electrical noise by up to 22%. This has a direct impact on energy efficiency. Also, there’s a reason those pins are thicker: the package is designed to handle 32% higher current than AM3, the AM3+ is designed to handle 145A, while AM3 was designed for 110A.
  • Lastly, with AM3+, AMD changed the CCR (Combo Cooler Retention Module), that plastic frame around the socket to hold the cooler, to be a two part kit, instead of the single-piece frame since s754. The two-piece CCR design first came to be with s1207, then on to other server sockets, and now makes its entry to the client platform with AM3+. The two-piece design ensures that air blown downwards by top-flow coolers make it to the VRM circuitry, with no plastic bars obstructing it. ASRock listed out specifications of all its AM3+ motherboards. They’re based on AMD 8-series chipsets.

Disadvantages Of AM3+ Platform

When you don’t consider the fact that Intel has only ever been increasing performance by around 3% at worst and around 5% at best for each new micro-architecture they release to the public, since Sandy Bridge (2nd gen) and up until Skylake (6th gen).

And the fact that they have been using the same 4 cores, 8 threads layout for their highest end consumer CPU’s, all the way from Sandy to Skylake, and charging a (pardon my French) shit ton for high core count prosumer ones for about half a decade (since 2012 till 2017, Zen 1st gen’s introduction to the consumer space was during early March of 2017) really doesn’t make it any better.

They can do this because AMD never had a way of coming back at Intel with anything until 2017. And before then Intel had also been increasing prices of said processors as well, as they effectively had owned the (consumer and prosumer) market for that duration of time.

Let’s not also forget the fact that, although Intel has offered their share of 8 core, 16 thread CPUs, and even 10 core, 20 thread ones before AMD had eventually made a comeback. Those enthusiast class CPUs, as if they weren’t expensive enough, required a completely different socket, on a more expensive motherboard compared to AMD’s current offerings.

At this point, Intel hopping onto different sockets, scrambling to find a way to edge out AND in any way, shape or form, (take the recent NDA lift Intel recently pulled on AMD hours before AMD announced that they were gonna allow reviewers to review their new 3rd gen Threadripper CPU’s, as one major, and recent example.

That reason above, the fact that Intel would do anything, by hook or by crook, to even edge out AMD, is probably the most face-value and harshest reason anyone would give to Intel designing a completely new socket for their 10th gen desktop CPU’s. Excuses aside their (sometimes valid) reasons of “needing a new socket because insert pin incompatibility reasons”, or “completely new platform, needs completely new socket too”.

Bottom Line

We have given enough information and summarized the best AM3+ CPU chase after the clients. We have recorded every one of the qualified CPUs with trend setting innovations and other elegant elements. Principally we have talked about the AMD FX series in this article; one can choose one of them as per their requirements and inclinations. AMD has planned the FX series for individualized computing, so the specs and the presentation range are as per that.

Not many of the expressed CPUs in the rundown accompany a sensible value range and a superior assistance, so it is a mutually advantageous arrangement. Notwithstanding, not many specs have been absent in a couple of the items, which may compromise in execution. In any case, let us break the suspicion bubble here; AMD is known for its quality presentation, and it has been displayed in the recorded items. Better than expected exhibitions have been found in the items, regardless of whether exceptional gaming or normal multi-PC errands. AM3+ attachment has acquired prominence in the current year as a result of cutting edge highlights, and that is the reason we have made an aide for the eight best AM3+ CPUs for 2021.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are AM3+ processors good?

AMD is known for making high-quality devices or leading computer hardware. AM3+ has added to the list of the top products for programming requirements. If we talk about the need for the best AM3+ CPU for PC installation, then it is the one that provides your computer with one of the highest speeds possible.

2. What is the difference between AM3+ and AM4?

The main differences between AM3+ and AM4 are the following: The AM3+ socket has 942 pins/holes, while the AM4 socket has 1331 pins/holes. Memory Support: AM3+ only supports DDR3, while AM4 exclusively uses DDR4. Chipsets and Features: AM4 is a much more modern socket, and has newer technologies and features to offer.

3. Can I use AM3+ processor in an AM3 socket?

Mechanical compatibility has been confirmed and it is possible for AM3+ CPUs to fit in AM3 boards, provided they can supply enough peak current. While AM3+ CPUs are technically pin-compatible with AM2 or AM2+ boards, they cannot work with them due to the lack of a DDR2 controller on the CPU.

4. What does 4 cores 8 threads mean?

This means that it only has 4 processing units (Cores) but has support in hardware to run 8 threads in parallel. This means that a maximum of four jobs run in the Core, if one of the jobs stalls due to for example memory access another thread can very fast start executing on the free Core with very little penalty.

5. Can bent CPU pins cause no display?

Yes, bent pins at the socket can absolutely disable video since the video has to get out of the CPU somehow and those pins could be the way. except they’re bent all to heck. There are many rumours of people who’ve managed to bend some pins back into place with a magnifier and patience.
